This book is a great example of the different places people can live and their home environment and is a great example that not everyone has a house with a backyard or a mother that watches out for them. Having other books with Eloise as the main character could encourage beginning readers to continue with reading and may have them start to enjoy reading by themselves. It is also great since there are several other Eloise books.
It stars young Sofia Vassilieva as Eloise, an irrepressible six-year-old girl who lives in the penthouse at the top of the Plaza Hotel in New York City. This is a great book for 2nd grade students who are looking for something a little bit more fun with their readings. Eloise at the Plaza is a 2003 American made-for-television comedy film based on the Eloise series of children's books drawn and written by Kay Thompson and Hilary Knight. I find this book hilarious but would be slightly cautious and make sure that whoever is reading this knows that some of the things that Eloise does, like wanting to pour water down the mail chute, are not appropriate. She spends her days “hanging out” with the staff and other guests. Eloise is a charming, slightly naughty, 6 year old who lives on the top floor of The Plaza. Eloise at The Plaza is a Realistic Fiction book that I have come to enjoy.
